NTA JEE (MAIN) 2025 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What are the dates for the JEE (Main) 2025 exam?
Ans: JEE (Main) 2025 will be conducted in two sessions. Session 1 is scheduled between January 22 and January 31, 2025. Session 2 will be held from April 1 to April 8, 2025
2. Who is eligible to appear for JEE (Main) 2025?
Ans: Candidates who passed their Class 12 (or equivalent) exams in 2023, 2024, or are appearing in 2025 are eligible for JEE (Main) 2025. There is no specific age limit for the exam itself; however, candidates must meet any age requirements set by the individual institutions they wish to apply to. Additionally, candidates should ensure their qualifying examination (Class 12 or equivalent) meets the recognized criteria listed by JEE, including exams from recognized boards or equivalent qualifications.
3. What are the language options for JEE (Main) 2025?
Ans: JEE (Main) 2025 will be offered in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, and regional languages like Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The chosen language must be selected at the time of registration
4. What is the exam pattern for JEE (Main) 2025?
Ans: The exam consists of multiple-choice and numerical value questions for B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning papers. For B.Arch, a drawing test is also included. Each paper has a specific structure to test different skills.
5. How can I select the examination city for JEE (Main) 2025?
Ans: Candidates must choose four preferred cities during registration. The final allocation depends on availability and logistics, with priority given to the candidate’s preference.
6. How is the JEE (Main) 2025 score calculated?
Ans: The JEE (Main) 2025 score calculation is a multi-step process that ensures a fair and standardised ranking for all candidates, even when exams are conducted in multiple shifts. Here’s how it works:
Raw Scores: First, the candidate’s raw scores are calculated based on the number of correct answers in each section. Each correct answer earns positive marks, and each incorrect answer may result in a deduction (negative marking) as per the specific marking scheme.
NTA Score (Percentile): Since JEE (Main) exams are held in multiple shifts with varying question papers, the National Testing Agency (NTA) uses a normalization process to ensure that scores are comparable across shifts. This process converts each candidate’s raw scores into an NTA score (or percentile score). The percentile score reflects the candidate’s performance relative to others in the same shift. For example, a percentile score of 95 means the candidate scored higher than 95% of students in that shift.
Best Score for Final Ranking: If a candidate appears for JEE (Main) in both sessions (January and April), the highest NTA score achieved across these attempts is used for the final ranking. This system benefits students by allowing them multiple chances to improve their score.
Merit List and Tie-Breaking: The final ranking for admissions is based on the highest NTA score among all attempts. In case of a tie (where two candidates have the same NTA score), specific tie-breaking rules apply, prioritizing scores in Mathematics, then Physics, and then Chemistry. Additional criteria, like fewer incorrect answers, are also used if the tie persists.
This system helps ensure that candidates’ scores are consistent and fair across different shifts and sessions, providing them with the best possible outcome for their JEE (Main) 2025 attempts (For more details, please read the Information Bulletin 2025.).
7. What should I bring to the JEE (Main) exam centre?
Ans: Required items include a printout of the Admit Card, one passport-size photo, a valid ID (like Aadhar or Passport), and a simple ballpoint pen. PwD candidates should also carry their disability certificate if applicable.
8. Can I apply for both JEE (Main) sessions?
Ans: Yes, candidates can apply for both sessions. Applications for Session 1 and Session 2 are submitted separately, and the best score from both attempts will be used for the ranking.
9. Is there a penalty for incorrect answers?
Ans: Yes, each incorrect answer in multiple-choice and numerical sections will result in a deduction of one mark. However, there is no penalty for unattempted questions.
10. What is the fee for JEE (Main) 2025?
Ans: The JEE (Main) 2025 application fee depends on the candidate’s category, gender, and whether they choose a test center within India or abroad. Here’s a breakdown:
