- Existing IAS or IFS Officers: Candidates who have already cleared a prior UPSC exam and are currently serving as officers in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) or Indian Foreign Service (IFS) are legally barred from retaking the exam.
- Active IPS Officers: Currently serving Indian Police Service (IPS) officers cannot choose the IPS again to improve their rank or change their state cadre.
