The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have announced a massive recruitment drive under Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 09/2025 for various posts in Level-1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix (commonly known as Group D). This drive aims to fill a total of 22,195 vacancies across Indian Railways for key roles like Trackmaintainer-IV, Assistant Pointsman, Assistant Bridge, and other technical assistants.

Latest Update: Through Corrigendum No. 4, the RRB officially extended the last date for online application submission to 09 March 2026. The application and correction windows are now officially closed, and candidates should prepare for the upcoming Computer Based Test (CBT).

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

Age calculated as on: 1 Jan 2026

The general age limit for UR and EWS candidates is 18 to 33 years. Age Relaxations Applicable:

  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 Years (Upper limit 36 years)
  • SC / ST: 5 Years (Upper limit 38 years)
  • Additional relaxations apply for Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, and Railway Staff as per extant rules.

Qualification

Candidates must have passed 10th Class (Matriculation) OR hold an ITI certificate from institutions recognized by NCVT/SCVT OR possess a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT. Note: Candidates awaiting their final results as of the closing date are NOT eligible to apply

Selection Process

CBT, followed by Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification (DV), and Medical Exam (ME).

The RRB Level-1 recruitment process consists of four major stages:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): A single-stage online objective exam.
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Mandatory qualifying test for candidates who clear the CBT (Exemptions apply for PwBD and Course Completed Act Apprentices).
  3. Document Verification (DV): Shortlisting based on CBT merit and PET qualification in a 1:1 ratio.
  4. Medical Examination (ME): To ensure candidates meet specific railway medical standards (A-2, A-3, B-1, C-1) depending on the post.

Exam Pattern & Syllabus

CBT Exam Pattern:

  • Duration: 90 Minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates with a scribe).
  • Total Questions: 100 Objective Type Questions.
  • Subjects: General Science (25), Mathematics (25), General Intelligence & Reasoning (30), and General Awareness & Current Affairs (20).
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Criteria:

  • Male Candidates: Must lift and carry 35 kg of weight for 100 meters in 2 minutes (without putting it down), AND run 1000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds.
  • Female & Transgender Candidates: Must lift and carry 20 kg of weight for 100 meters in 2 minutes (without putting it down), AND run 1000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds.

Expert Tip

Aadhar Authentication: Candidates are strongly advised to authenticate their identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar. Doing so ensures smoother biometric verification at the exam centre. If you use an alternate ID, you will be subject to stricter scrutiny.
