Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026 online application process has been started by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu for admission to B.E. / B.Tech degree courses across Government, Government Aided, University Departments and participating Self-Financing Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu. Eligible Class 12 students can apply online through the official TNEA portal. Candidates must complete registration, upload documents, certificate verification, rank list process and online counselling within the scheduled dates.

Eligibility Criteria

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026 is conducted for admission into First Year Engineering degree programmes under the Unified Single Window Admission System. Admission is offered based on Class 12 marks normalization and merit ranking. No separate entrance examination is conducted for TNEA admissions.

Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu and eligible other-state categories who satisfy nativity and educational eligibility conditions can apply online through the official TNEA portal. Special reservations are available for Government School students, Ex-Servicemen category, Differently Abled candidates and Eminent Sports Persons.

Age Limit

Age calculated as on 2 Jun 2026

There is generally no upper age limit for most B.E. / B.Tech admissions under TNEA 2026.

However, for Marine Engineering:

  • Maximum Age: 25 Years
  • Minimum Height: 157 cm
  • Minimum Weight: 48 kg
  • Normal Colour Vision Required

Candidates must also satisfy Directorate General of Shipping medical fitness conditions.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed:

  • HSC / Class 12 Academic Stream with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
    OR
  • HSC Vocational Stream with relevant Engineering-related subjects.

Important Eligibility Notes

  • Tamil Nadu students studying Classes 8 to 12 in Tamil Nadu are eligible without Nativity Certificate.
  • Other State students who studied Classes 8 to 12 in Tamil Nadu are eligible under Open Competition.
  • OCI / PIO Tamil Nadu native candidates are eligible under Open Category subject to rules.
  • Improvement marks obtained after 2006 are not considered.

Admission Based on Class 12 Merit Rank, Online Choice Filling & Counselling Without Entrance Exam

TNEA 2026 admission is completely merit-based and no entrance examination is conducted for admission into B.E. / B.Tech courses in Tamil Nadu. Selection is carried out through Class 12 marks normalization, merit ranking, online choice filling, seat allotment and online counselling process.

Merit Calculation

The qualifying examination marks are reduced to a total of 200 marks as follows:

Tie-Breaking Rules

If two or more candidates secure the same aggregate marks, inter-se merit is determined in the following order:

  3. Higher Optional Subject marks
  4. Higher total marks in Class 12
  5. Elder candidate by Date of Birth
  6. Higher Random Number assigned by TNEA
