Exam Pattern & Syllabus

GATE 2027 Major Changes Candidates Must Know

  • DigiLocker registration is mandatory for all Indian nationals. Name, date of birth, contact details, profile picture, address and verified ID details are fetched from the verified account.
  • Robotics and Automation (RA) is a new standalone GATE paper, taking the total to 30 papers.
  • Textile Engineering and Fibre Science is no longer a standalone TF paper; it is available as the XE9 optional section under Engineering Sciences.
  • All test-paper syllabi are marked as revised. IIT Madras specifically flags Biotechnology and the new XE, XH and XL section-code system.
  • GATE 2027 will be held only at centres in India. Applicants choose six cities from the same GATE zone.
  • A live photograph may be captured during registration, so candidates should use a computer with a webcam or a phone with a suitable camera.

GATE 2027 Registration Checklist

  • Create or update a verified DigiLocker account before the application window opens.
  • Keep a compliant photograph, signature, photo ID and applicable category, UDID/PwD, dyslexia or scribe documents ready.
  • Choose the primary paper first and check the official two-paper matrix before paying for a second paper.
  • Choose all six preferred examination cities from one GATE zone.
