Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

Age calculated as on: 1 Jan 2026

Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age. Standard upper age limit relaxations apply as per government norms: an age relaxation of 5 years is applicable for SC/ST candidates, and 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates.

CBT 1, CBT 2, Typing Skill Test, Document Verification & Medical Examination.

The RRB NTPC UG recruitment is a multi-stage process designed to test the aptitude and skills of the candidates. Shortlisting is done strictly on the basis of merit secured in the computer-based tests.

Stage 1: Phase I: Online Preliminary Examination

  • Objective type computer-based examination.
  • Comprises four sections: General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning.
  • Acts as a screening test; marks are not counted for final selection.

Stage 2: Phase II: Online Main Examination

  • Combination of Objective and Descriptive type questions.
  • Paper I: Economic and Social Issues (Objective + Descriptive).
  • Paper II: English (Writing Skills) (Descriptive).
  • Paper III: Finance and Management (Objective + Descriptive).

Stage 3: Phase III: Psychometric Test & Personal Interview

  • Shortlisted candidates must undergo a Psychometric Test before the interview.
  • The Personal Interview carries significant weightage (typically 75 marks).
  • Final merit list is prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained in Phase II and the Personal Interview.

Exam Pattern & Syllabus

  • CBT 1 (90 Minutes, 100 Marks): The preliminary screening test comprises General Awareness (40 questions), Mathematics (30 questions), and General Intelligence & Reasoning (30 questions).
  • CBT 2 (90 Minutes, 120 Marks): The main examination consists of General Awareness (50 questions), Mathematics (35 questions), and General Intelligence & Reasoning (35 questions).

Note: There is a strict negative marking penalty of 1/3rd of the allotted marks for every incorrect answer.
