This year, the commission has announced approximately 12,256 tentative vacancies for various Group 'B' and Group 'C' posts across different Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India. Selection Process

The SSC CGL 2026 selection process relies on a Computer Based Examination conducted in two tiers:

  1. Tier-I: A qualifying objective exam covering General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension.
  2. Tier-II: The main merit-deciding phase. It includes compulsory Paper-I for all posts (covering Math, Reasoning, English, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge, and Data Entry Speed Test). Paper-II is strictly for JSO/Statistical Investigator, and Paper-III is strictly for AAO posts.
  3. Document Verification (DV) & Physical/Medical Tests: Conducted by the respective User Departments after the final result declaration.

Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Tier-I (Qualifying): 100 questions carrying 200 marks, with a time limit of 1 hour. Subjects include General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 Qs), General Awareness (25 Qs), Quantitative Aptitude (25 Qs), and English Comprehension (25 Qs). There is a negative marking of 0.50 for wrong answers.

Tier-II (Merit-Deciding):

  • Paper-I (Compulsory for all): 2 hours 15 minutes session. Includes Mathematical Abilities (30 Qs), Reasoning (30 Qs), English Language (45 Qs), General Awareness (25 Qs), Computer Knowledge (20 Qs), and a Data Entry Speed Test (DEST). Negative marking is 1 mark per wrong answer.
  • Paper-II (For JSO/SI Grade II only): Statistics (100 Qs, 200 Marks).
  • Paper-III (For AAO only): General Studies - Finance and Economics (100 Qs, 200 Marks).

How to Apply for SSC CGL 2026

f you make a mistake, SSC provides a 'Window for Application Form Correction' from 29.06.2026 to 01.07.2026.

  • You are allowed to correct and re-submit your modified application twice.
  • The uniform correction charge is ₹200 for the first modification and ₹500 for the second modification.

Important Tips for Candidates

  • One-Time Registration (OTR): You MUST complete the OTR on the new website (ssc.gov.in). Old OTRs from ssc.nic.in are no longer valid.
  • Live Photo Capture: There is no need to upload a pre-existing photograph. The application portal will capture your photo live. Ensure you sit in good lighting, look straight, and do not wear a cap or glasses.
  • Aadhaar Authentication: Opting for Aadhaar-based biometric authentication during OTR prevents your application from being rejected due to minor photo/signature discrepancies and saves time during exam entry.
