TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility 2026: Age Limit and Qualification

TNPSC Group 2 eligibility 2026 depends on the exact Group II or Group IIA post selected in the application. Under Notification No. 07/2026, most posts require a recognised bachelor’s degree, adequate knowledge of Tamil and age within the post-wise limit as on 1 July 2026. The common upper age limit for “Others” is 32 years for most posts, but Probation Officer, Sub Registrar, Deputy Commercial Tax Officer, Jailor and Executive Officer have important exceptions.

“Others” means candidates who do not belong to SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM) or BCM. Age must be checked as on 1 July 2026.

DCTO age limit with a Law degree

For Deputy Commercial Tax Officer, an Others-category candidate has an upper age limit of 32 years; a candidate holding a degree in Law may apply up to 34 years. The corresponding limits are 42 and 44 for eligible PwBD candidates, 50 and 52 for ex-servicemen, and 37 and 39 for destitute widows.

For SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM) and BCM candidates, most Group II and Group IIA posts have no maximum age limit. TNPSC states that “no maximum age limit” means the candidate must not have completed 60 years on 1 July 2026 or at the time of selection or appointment.

A candidate must possess the prescribed educational and technical qualification on the notification date, 11 August 2026. If the university result or required qualification was obtained only after that date, the notified cutoff is not met.

Tamil Language Eligibility

Candidates must possess adequate knowledge of Tamil on 11 August 2026. Proof may include passing SSLC, HSC or a degree with Tamil as a language; studying through Tamil medium; or passing the TNPSC Second Class Language Test (Full Test). A candidate without proof may be required to pass the language test within two years of appointment, subject to the notification.

• Only persons professing Hindu religion are eligible for Audit Inspector, Executive Officer Grade III and HR&CE Assistant Post Code 2271.
• Others-category candidates with five years or more service under the Union, a State or a Union Territory government are not eligible even if they are within the age limit.
• Date of birth is verified against SSLC/HSC records; unsupported age or qualification claims can lead to rejection.
• Admission to every stage is provisional until TNPSC verifies all eligibility claims and original documents.
