Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit
TNPSC will calculate age as on 1 July 2026.
- For Group IIA posts, the general minimum age is 18 years and the general maximum age for Others is 32 years.
- For Executive Officer, Grade III, the minimum age is 25 years and the maximum age for Others is 37 years.
- Group II minimum ages vary by post: 18 years for most posts, 20 for Sub Registrar Grade-II and 22 for Probation Officer.
- For most Group II posts, the maximum age for Others is 32 years. Deputy Commercial Tax Officer applicants holding a law degree may apply up to 34 years.
- Reserved-category candidates receive post-specific higher limits or no maximum age limit, subject to TNPSC rules.
- Where the notification says no maximum age limit, the candidate must not have completed 60 years as on 1 July 2026 or at selection/appointment.

Common Preliminary Examination
A single OMR-based objective screening test is conducted for Group II and Group IIA. Preliminary marks are not counted for final merit. TNPSC proposes to admit candidates to each main examination at about ten times the number of vacancies, subject to reservation and tied cut-off marks.
Separate Main Examinations
Group II has a descriptive Tamil Eligibility Test and a descriptive General Studies paper. Group IIA has a descriptive Tamil Eligibility Test and a CBT objective paper covering General Studies, General Intelligence and Reasoning.
Final Ranking and Counselling
Paper I of the main examination is qualifying. Final ranking is based only on Paper II marks, followed by onscreen certificate verification, physical certificate verification and counselling. The notification does not prescribe a separate interview stage for this recruitment.
