How to Prepare for UIIC AO 2026
Start with Tier I speed because every section has a fixed 20-minute limit. Build a daily rotation of one reasoning set, one data-interpretation set, a timed English set and short calculation drills. Add General Awareness and Computer Knowledge from the first week instead of postponing them until after prelims.
Generalist Preparation Priorities
- Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude together carry 70% of Tier I marks and 120 of 250 Generalist objective-mains marks.
- General Awareness carries 60 marks in the Generalist mains; prioritise insurance, financial-sector and recent-current-affairs coverage.
- Computer Knowledge is only 20 marks but allows 30 seconds per question, so practise quick factual recall.
- Write one letter and one essay every two or three days on a computer to improve structure, grammar and typing speed.
Hindi Officer Preparation Priorities
- Professional Knowledge carries 100 of the 200 objective marks, making grammar, official-language rules and translation the highest-priority area.
- Practise English-Hindi translation and Hindi drafting daily using formal administrative vocabulary.
- Build typing fluency on the Inscript or Remington (GAIL) layout before the descriptive test.
A Practical 4-Week Study Plan
| Week | Main target | Daily work |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Concept repair | Arithmetic basics, core reasoning, grammar, vocabulary and current-affairs notes |
| Week 2 | Sectional speed | Three timed section tests plus GA / Computer or Professional Knowledge |
| Week 3 | Full prelims practice | One full mock, error log, weak-topic revision and descriptive writing |
| Week 4 | Exam simulation | Full mocks at exam time, rapid revision, accuracy and guess-control |

Accuracy Strategy for Negative Marking
Because a wrong answer loses one-fourth of the question’s marks, rank questions as sure, workable and risky. Finish sure questions first, attempt workable questions within the section timer, and avoid blind guesses. Review mock tests by separating concept errors, calculation errors and time-pressure errors.
